Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

CBT is a type of talk therapy that can help children and teens of all ages heal. It focuses on how thoughts and feelings affect behavior. CBT can help children learn to control self-defeating thoughts and replace negative reactions with improved self image and new coping skills. Relaxation techniques, behavioral modification, and skills training are also important components of CBT.

There are many mental health diagnoses that respond well to CBT including anxiety, depression, ADHD, & ODD. Sessions are typically conducted weekly one-on-one with the child. Parent sessions are incorporated throughout to increase parent education and understanding how best to implement changes at home. CBT can be incorporated into play therapy for younger children or as solely talk therapy for older children or teenagers.
