Lauren Butler
MSW, LCSW, RPT, Owner
Hi! I’m Lauren Butler, MSW, LCSW, RPT and the founder of Parent Like It Matters. I’m passionate about helping kids and families heal, grow, and feel truly connected. I believe every family deserves the highest level of support from the very beginning, and my goal is to build a collaborative partnership that makes that possible.
More than anything, I want every child and parent I work with to feel empowered to create the life they deserve and to know that healing is possible. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where kids can be kids, parents can feel heard, and families can thrive together.
I am excited to have my therapy dog-in-training, Beans, work alongside of me!

I specialize in supporting children ages 3–12 who have experienced trauma, as well as working with parents to feel more confident and supported in their parenting journey. I use a mix of approaches — including EMDR, TF-CBT, CBT, and integrative play therapy — to meet each child and family where they are and help them find what works best for them. I am happy to incorporate Christian counseling upon request. Other areas of speciality & training include ADHD & sensory processing disorder.

I received my Bachelor of Social Work from NC State University in 2014 and my Master of Social Work from the University of New England in 2016. I also hold a graduate certificate in Play Therapy from UNC-Pembroke.

Meet Beans!
.jpg)
Beans is our very important therapy puppy-in-training and Lauren’s tiny (but mighty!) co-therapist. With his wagging tail, soft ears, and calming presence, Beans helps make therapy feel a little less scary and a lot more approachable, especially for kids who communicate best through play, movement, and connection.

When it’s a good fit, Beans may join sessions to help kids (& adults) practice calming their bodies, build trust, and feel safe enough to open up. Sometimes that looks like quietly hanging out, sometimes it’s practicing gentle interactions, and sometimes it’s just having a furry friend nearby while doing hard things.

Beans is growing right alongside our clients-learning patience, regulation, and how to be the best helper he can be. We can’t wait for you to meet him… and yes, he knows he’s a big deal!
